Rosemary Nixon

Rosemary Nixon’s first work of fiction, Mostly Country, was published under NeWest Press’s Nunatak Fiction: especially selected works of outstanding fiction by new western writers. It was shortlisted for the Howard O’Hagen Short Fiction Book of the Year Award. Her second collection, The Cock’s Egg, won the Howard O’Hagan Book of The Year Award. Her short fiction piece, “Vampa Falls” won Grain Magazine’s International Short Fiction Competition. She has published in literary magazines across Canada and her work has appeared in numerous anthologies. Rosemary was writer-in-residence for the Markin-Flanagan Distinguished Writers Programme at the University of Calgary and was writer-in-residence at the University of Windsor in 2010-2011. For three summers she taught at the Sage Hill Writing Experience Colloquium in Saskatchewan. She teaches creative writing at Chinook College in Calgary, and as well as offering private courses. Rosemary also works as a freelance consultant for the Calgary Board of Education, teaching children how to write as real writers and teaching teachers how to teach writing creatively. She has judged numerous literary competitions and has served two terms on the Markin-Flanagan Distinguished Writers Programme board, hosting international writers to Calgary. This past summer Rosemary taught creative writing on The Island of Samos, Greece.

Her novel Kalila was released this past April to critical acclaim.
