ARTCITE presents a show in cooperation with BookFest Windsor 2010

October 22 – November 20, 2010

CHARCOAL + TURBO
by Marie-Suzanne Desillets (Montreal PQ)

Opening reception: Friday, October 22, 7:30 pm

Nature of Activity: Solo show, mixed media installation.
While creating the materials for this show, the artist kept a journal containing the accumulated artifacts relating to the project.

Artist’s comments:

"I'm interested in human relations and in multiple codes of behaviors. In my projects, the imaginary and reality, fantasy and the ordinary are confronted. Unexpected situations happen, to transform and improve perception and preconception.

Because I'm interested in including art in day-to-day life, many of my works are interventions in public spaces. But in the last few years, I have been working on a project that is about how I can include art in my own life. This approach is used to reveal how interpretation is predominant in our experiences, and explores the place it takes in the search of meaning for each and every moment of life. It finally brought interrogation on the role of memory, related to reality and truth.

I explored the idea of manipulating the memory flow of daily experiences. A rabbit and a dildo, nicknamed Charcoal and Turbo, were the pretext for a story that slips between fantasy and reality, questioning decencies, shadiness and taboo.

Throughout the project, as I experienced encounters, I kept a journal, and I accumulated photographs, objects, and drawings each and every day. "
